NON - SITE
February 3, 7-9pm
There is a place for content to be gathered and an outlet for it to be presented. Which Robert Smithson writes is "an absence of site”. NON - SITE presents an evening into the exploration of field recordings, contact microphones, and deconstructive club music. The evening will act as a placeholder for moments recorded in New York’s surrounding areas that are currently going through rapid gentrification. Displaying the tools used for development, transit, and other found sounds that make up these neighborhoods inner coordinates. NON - SITE Looks to connect the dots between sonic environments and the genres that have been birthed from them.
Warm Canopy’s conceptual artworks are based on formal associations which open a poetic vein. Multilayered images arise in which the fragility and instability of our seemingly certain reality is questioned. By investigating language on a meta-level, he often creates several practically identical works, upon which thoughts that have apparently just been developed are manifested: notes are made and then crossed out again, ‘mistakes’ are repeated. Warm Canopy (Freddie Wyss) is based in New York.
Claude Edwards utilizes aural, visual and textual disciplines to address the pro and postdrome of ‘open’ societies. Intermixing discordant grids=economically uninteresting social displacement. By accumulating effects of quotidian trauma, his practice experiments with chosen vs. imposed context contained in gesture and expression on the basis of social circumstance. Assuming the position of outsider Claude Edwards both references and questions contemporary movements of progress. Claude Edwards is an interdisciplinary artist based in New York.
